After wading through the body shapes and determining which category you belong to,
you've decided that you're an apple. So what does that exactly mean?
What Does it Means to Have an Apple Body Shape
It means you have a full chest, upper back with no or little waist definition. You might appear top heavy.
And your bust and mid-riff might appear bigger than your hips. Also known as 'oval' and 'round'.
Another sign that may indicate you're an apple is that
when you gain weight the fat gets easily stored around your upper half - especially around your mid-section.
It Doesn't Necessarily Mean You're Overweight
Often many people associate an apple body shape as someone who is curvy, often overweight, when this is often not the case.
There are celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Hurley who have this shape but in a "thinner" version.
If you're thinking "No way" then try looking up pictures
of them in their bikini. Their stylists usually can work wonders when dressing their client ;-)
Usually thinner apple shapes resemble rectangle and inverted triangle because of their wide upper body.
But once they gain weight, the fat gets stored around your upper half, making
your torso look top-heavy and curvy (check post-preg Angelina). You rectangle and
inverted triangle share many of the basic 'how-to' guidelines, which is
to slim down your waist.

Update Nov 2010: After carefully studying Catherine Zeta-Jones' and Elizabeth Hurley's body figure
(they are both in the hourglass-rectangle category) I've decided to remove them from the examples.
However their image examples still remain to give you an example of how to dress your apple shape.
Angelina is a bit of a sketchy example as she appears wide at the waist (even when she is thin) but I would say that she's a rectangle shape leaning towards apple (post-pregnant).
Now let's check out the fashion guidelines on how to dress your body shape:
How to Dress Your Apple Body Shape
Your main goal when dressing your body shape is to create a proportionate frame by slimming down your upper half -
both chest and waist. Usually shoulder pads, v-necks and long, draped and vertical details will help you achieve this.
Check out my fashion tips below:
Create a trimmer waist
We basically want to make your mid-section look narrower.
As Catherine Zeta-Jones' upper body is wider and fuller than her lower part, she adds volume and width to her hips with a patterned
pencil skirt.
Elizabeth Hurley elegantly wears a trendy dress with a deep V-neck to slim down her chest; belted detail to create a trimmer waist; and floral patterns that
add more width to her hips and legs.

And of course, you can always resort to the famous-and-loved-by-celebs
womens shapewear that will instantly trim down your upper body. Waist cinchers especially will help trim down your waist in an instant.
Elongate your waist
It will help make your chest and waist look longer and leaner.

Here Jennifer Hudson wears a black long, wide leg jumpsuit to create a leaner shape. She also adds a black belt to tuck in her waist along with
a long Y-necklace. It works wonders on her plus-size apple body shape.
Tip: Wearing solid, dark colors on your upper body will make it look leaner.
Draw attention to your lower body
An apple body shape has a heavier top than bottom, so try balancing it out with light colored and eye catching shoes, and boot cut and flare/
wide leg jeans.
Accentuate your best features
Elizabeth Hurley draws attention to her cleavage with a low v-neck black empire dress. She also made sure to wear a dress
that cinchs at the thinnest part of her upper body, right below her bust - making her bust look bigger and visually creating a defined waist.

Dress your vertical body shape and height
You also need to consider your vertical body shape (are you short legged-long waisted? Or long legged-short legged?) as well as your height.
If you're petite stick to slim and straight fitted bottoms and dresses, small prints (medium but vertical prints if you're a plus size) and preferably above or on the knee-length hemlines!
If you're a plus size avoid dainty, small details and prints as they can emphasize your size.
Best Clothes for Your Apple Body Shape
Tailored and fitted tops, sweaters and dresses:
It will skim your silhouette in a flattering way compared to boxy tops that only exaggerate your figure.

But if you must wear a baggy top to hide your waist, do it fashionably like Angelina.
Add a piece that draws attention downwards. Like for example a pair of high heels or funky shoes.
Solid, dark colors:
Especially black, dark blue navy, dark brown and dark grey. Wear it as a top or sweater and you've instantly trimmed down your
chest!

Low v-necks:
They lengthen your neck and minimize your chest and torso, creating a long and lean line on your frame.

If it's too daring for your taste wear a cute cami underneath it. Or you could always wear a long necklace with a scoop neck top.
Tops that cinch at the thinnest part of your waist:
Such as empire cut to skim over your wide midriff.
Straight, wide and flare leg pants:
Will help balance out your body shape by widening your hips a bit.
Single-breasted coats and jackets:
Because of the single straight line these will flatter your shape.
Double-breasted add ' noise' to your body figure and make your torso look wider and bigger.

Full skirts:
Such as A-line and circle skirts to draw the eye away from your full midsection. They also manage to show off great curves
Last Words
Did you find my fashion tips on how to dress your apple body shape useful? If not, do this:
Imagine a proportional hourglass shape. Now in your head try to merge your apple figure with that shape.
See any "excess" area on top or "lack" of figure around the bottom? That's your main focus - trimming your upper body
or to make it easier, balance out your shape by adding more volume to your lower half. You can do this by wearing something slimming on top
or balance it out by adding more volume around your thighs and legs.
