Seasonal Color Analysis for Women of Color

Adjustments and Suggestions When You Can't Find the Right Season

Female celebrities of color and different races

Seasonal color analysis can be a frustrating thing. It's frustrating, isn't it? I mean, like whenever you're taking a seasonal color analysis, you either get "trapped" in either winter or autumn, and you just know it isn't right.

4 main seasonal color analysis seasons
Carole Jackson has admitted that the Color Me Beautiful-system isn't perfect and that women of color may have problems identifying their real color season. And because of this issue, she decided it was time to revise her book -- with a new refined seasonal color system, dividing each season into 3 groups depending on the intensity of your colorings. It goes something like this: light - medium - dark. So basically your seasonal color group is based on the intensity of your hair, skin and eyes.

Like for example, if you are an African or Indian woman with a slightly lighter and cooler skintone, hair and eye color, you might flow towards spring or summer instead of the typical Autumn or Winter.

Important Note:

Pay less attention to the eye color if everything else in the color group matches with your hair and skin. Because hair and your skin tone covers your whole body, you need to focus on them when determining your season. You can choose makeup separately to complement your eyes.

Let's take a closer look at the two seasons which are looked upon as "off-limits" if you're colored.

According to Color Me Beautiful-system, women of color are either a Winter or Autumn. Yes, it is a bit narrow-minded, but I've figured out a way to find confirm if you indeed are one of those two. Check this out:

Spring Seasonal Color Group

To be recognized as a Spring, you must have lighter and clearer colorings with a hint of gold or peach.

Take a look at Beyoncé who is a Spring:

She has lighter skin tone -- more clearer and peachy than most African-Americans (or Africans if you will) women who are classfied as cool Winter or fiery Autumn. And her hair is more of a golden medium brown.

Summer

To be recognized as a Summer, you must have ashy or blue-toned hair (without any golden highlights) with cool (blue'ish or pink) skintone.

Note: Usually the suggestions for Summer compliment light and cool colors the best, so it clashes if you're non-caucasian with dark-golden features.

Check out Rihanna:

A shocker for most, but yes it can work! However, I'm not sure if the lighting has anything to do with her colorings on this picture, but as you can see, her skintone is blue'ish, hair ashy and eyes pale. Summer season color will suit her.

Just take a look at the color of her dresses:

Because she's a lighter and cooler shade of black, she can pull off colors from the summer season palette.
