Wool Tights

Wool tights, as well as opaque tights are definitely some of the greatest fashion inventions - and with out a doubt, closet essentials for Fall/Winter. And I see why we scramble to the store to buy a pair of warm winter tights after seeing an episode of Gossip girl :) They are fun, fashionable and keep you warm!

The practicality of a pair of wool tights is one of the the reasons why I consider them as an important drawer essential, especially if you live in a climate where the weather tends to get chilly. They're super-versatile and go with different outfits - from preppy college gal to rocker chick, classy lady to the trendy babe.

They're simply your must-haves when you want to adapt to the colder weather without sacrificing your style. Not only do they hide your imperfections, they're perfect for wearing with a dress, skirts and shorts for fall and winter. They also make it possible for you to wear your spring and summer clothes during winter!

How to Wear Wool Tights Fashionably

What you pair the tights with is really up to your personal clothing style, but if you like the classy/trendy/or flirty look here are some chic outfit ideas for you to try:

Skirt:

I personally find the full mini skirt (especially high waisted) with winter tights incredibly chic. It gives a feminine, flirty Parisian look to your outfit. Pair it with a tucked in shirt and heeled lace up boots.

Short to knee length denim skirts are great but you need to add that little 'sumthin sumthin' to update the look - like a long pendant necklace or pair of heeled boots. Or choose a denim skirt with high waist and/or buttons down the front.

For the denim skirt look I would combine it with a fitted cream turtleneck sweater and slim brown belt, laced up oxford booties, crystal pendant necklace and a large cocktail ring for added visual interest.

For a comfy, casual look a knit sweater would go well with a black skirt, wool tights and a pair of womens cowboy boots.

Dress:

Wool tights worn with a dress is more common. Pair them with a fitted tunic dress top, turtleneck dress, shift dress, tank dress or a flowy boho dress. It's really up to your style.

You can also take a basic solid colored dress and top it off with a cardigan shrug and leather bow flats for office work.

Shorts:

This one is a trendy look for your wool tights. Match them with dressy black shorts, fitted high waist or casual cut-off denim shorts, brown tweed shorts, etc., along with a shirt, blouse, tee or drape cardigan.

For a stylish take on this look add accessories such as a cocktail ring and chain necklace. Leather shorts go hand in hand with wool winter tights!

More Tips on Wearing Winter Tights

  • The best shoes to go with wool hosiery are boots and flats. Pumps are ok too but they need to have a trendy appeal to them (for example; suede pumps with chunky heel, wedge heel, platform heel, etc.). Dressy pumps don't mesh well with wool tights (but they do with opaque tights which are thinner than wool)
  • If you live in a place where the climate is cold during fall/winter and want to able to wear dresses, skirts and shorts then I suggest that you invest in winter tights in all kinds of neutral and classic fall colors such as black (of course), dark brown, dark grey, medium-to light grey, cream, beige, plum, dark red and mustard yellow
  • Neutrals such as black, brown, grey and white are winners if you want to wear them with different outfit combinations and save money
  • Be careful with pairing dark tights with light colored shoes as they can make you look shorter. If you're petite and/or have short or thick legs stick to a monochromatic color scheme (colors in similar nuance) to achieve an elongating effect
