I recently cut my hair (dark brown) really, really short. I love my new hairstyle, but suddenly all my clothes look wrong. And I just can't seem to find what works for me. This is really frustrating because I used to be so confident in my clothing choices.

I am almost 50 years old but my friends all tell me I look much younger. I am about 5'6" and a curvy 10/12.

I would describe my previous style as classic with a romantic touch. I like to look like an individual and feel like everything I try on now is sooooo boring. I am also so tired of wearing business suits and would love another option that is sophisticated but more creative. I like my jewelry to be bold and make a statement and I think that is what I want my clothes to be like too.

I don't want to dress like a 20 year old but I am also not ready for matronly attire.

I hope you can help.
Thanks.

The downside of cutting your hair so short is that it messes with the proportions of your figure and the clothes in your wardrobe. Cutting your hair very short usually result in making your lower body look curvier because you removed the proportions (the long hair) from your upper half. Plus, short haircuts usually projects a new, funkier, younger look which clashed with your previous girly, romantic style.

Bolder and funkier with style

The strategy to complementing your new haircut is to find clothes and ways to add more volume and attention on top with a pair of bright colored earrings or a multi-colored large gemstone necklace. I think this is perfect for your new taste as it gives you another reason to experiment with a bolder looking style that goes hand in hand with your new hairstyle.

Statement accessories

To create a maximum style impact, invest in bold accessories like a luxurious, richly colored shawls, bold gemstone necklaces and earrings, cuff bracelets and wide belts, which you can wear to spruce up the other plain essentials (ex. dress pants, white shirts, black dress, pencil skirt). You could also try on print tops and bright colors. Mix wardrobe essentials and bold garments together! See: Dramatic clothing personality for more fashion tips.

Other details I would like you to try are: shirts with ruffles or bows, large cluster necklaces, wide leg pants and jeans, a simple wide belt to go with your basic shirts.

Hope this helps!
Kind regards,

What Should I Do With My Hair (CRISIS!!!)

What should I do with straight jet black hair, bob length, and a round face with almond shaped brown eyes

If you want to keep your bob length hair I think you should add some layers and perhaps sideswept bangs to create definition to your round face shape (see example of Hayden Panettiere). Depending on your coloring you can dye your hair golden reddish-brown with some highlights if you're warm or if you're cool, a darker shade of brown-black or brown-red.

Hope this helps.

Hair Colour Advice for a Cool Complexion

I am stuck with what I should do with my hair and am wondering if you can help me.

If it helps, I have:

- blue/green eyes with yellow radiating from the pupils
- ash brown hair with red tones in the sun
- cool beige skin

I have not had blonde colour put in my hair for two years. It is currently my natural brown hair colour but I would like a change. What should I do?

When selecting a hair color you'll first have to figure out if you have a warm or cool complexion. From your color description it sounds like you're cool.

This means that you should avoid all warm colors because they can clash with your complexion and make you look sickly pale.

You should go for neutral, ash and beige based hair dye. It really depends on your taste on how light or dark you want to go.

Here's a link to how to choose a new hair color: How to choose a hair color

Hope this helps!

What Is My Face Shape?

by Alice Eulin
(Philippines)

What's my face shape? I really need to know 'coz I'm planning to have a new hair cut. When I'm not smiling, my face looks like round or oval shape but when I'm smiling it forms a pointed chin.

Hi Alice, on your picture it looks like a mix of oval (because of your tall forehead) and square -- this can also result in a round face when smiling.

The width of your jawline and forehead are approximately the same, but your chin is pointy which can sometimes make your face shape look a bit oval. I believe you should focus on hairstyles for square and round face shape. Your face shape reminds me a bit of Naomi Watts (you can see her picture on the square face shape- section).

I suggest that you pick a hairstyle that slims down your jawline -- like for example long layers kept below your jawline. You can also pull off sideswept bangs -- which help create more definition and as well as slim down your face.

Hope this helps! Please let us know how it goes :-)
