Wide Leg Jeans
"70s Glamour with Flare Leg Jeans"
Let your legs breathe a little with wide leg jeans! If you're sick of squeezing into skinny jeans but still want to look stylish then these roomy pants will do great without choking your legs.
Wide leg pants (or wide leg trousers in finer English) feature a wide opening from your thighs and down. This is a nice feature that complements a Pear body shape or anyone who is self-conscious about their prominent bottom (wide hips, big butt, thick thighs and even full legs). They're not as hot and dandy as skinnys but they ooze a glamorous vibe which looks elegant and chic.
They are so much more forgiving than tapered pants as they
can instantly disguise any bumps, curves, holiday or post-preggy weight.
You'll especially love how long and legs look in them. With me, I love wearing wide leg with a fitted top to
create an ultra-sleek and lean silhouette.
How to Select a Pair of Wide Leg Jeans
If you have curves, it will conceal them and create a lean streamline which minimizes your hip and leg-area.
But if you have a straight frame with little to no waist definition, wide leg jeans will create curves.
And guess what, if you have wide shoulders or voluminous bust, it'll balance out your body frame perfectly by adding more width around your lower body part!
There are some body figures that look better in flare leg jeans than others. Let's take a look at a couple of pointers to keep in mind when buying wide leg jeans:
If we have to do a reality-check then we both know that wider silhouettes tend to eat up Petites (5'4" or shorter) and short legs. Compared to average to taller body figures, petites have less canvas to work on which means she has to keep her outfit clean and streamlined to appear taller.
Let me give you an example..

See how those wide leg pants with the puffy shirt drown Mary Kate's appearance? Katie suits the look better because of her taller figure - her 5'9" body can handle it.
So if you're petite and are contemplating on putting on wide leg pants, wear a more fitted top or opt for a narrower hemline. Or simply opt for flare leg jeans instead - they're fitted around the thighs which help you look taller.
Take a look at how Mary Kate's twin sister Ashley does it stylishly:

The shoulder-exposing tank top... narrower pants and not least the peep toe pumps. They all help balance out the wide pants on her petite figure.
Get the right hem
Height-wise, if you're tall, you'll be able to pull off a range of leg widths.
However if you're a Plus Size you need to opt for a wider wide leg that complements your body size. If you're short then slimmer wide legs harmonize best with your petite proportions.
If you're a petite plus size, opt for a medium-scaled leg width (not too slim, nor too wide).
If you're tall and skinny (thin-boned) you'll look best in slim to medium.
Note: The wider legs, the more obvious and 70'ish they'll appear. So if you want to create a fashion statement, choose a wider hemline.
What about the length of the jeans?
If you want to look lean and trim, the hem of your jeans should barely skim the floor. If it's too long, even just an inch or two, it'll look sloppy.

This means that you won't be able to wear the same pair of wide leg jeans with your heels and ballet flats. The downside is that you have to commit to one type of shoes per wide leg jeans. Cuffing the hemline on wide leg jeans looks hideous - so buy a pair of wide leg jeans for each shoe heel.
Balance out your outfit
The art of wearing wide hem jeans stylishly is to wear a fitted top. However if you're wearing slim wide leg then you can go slightly looser on top.

Another tip to achieve great proportions is to keep your top short (above or at the hipbone). If you still feel swamped in the jeans consider upping the inches of the shoes and showing off some skin with a short or sleeve less top.
