What Stylish Boots to Wear for a Snowy Place

by Heidi
(Canada)

What womens boots should I wear?

I'm moving to a place that is snowy, and freezing like 8 months out of the year, so that will affect what I can wear. I do not want to wear UGGs! lol.

I love heels (and thats about all I own), but Im not sure they're very reasonable for a hilly snowy place.

Should I just suck it up and wear them?!

I definitely think you should suck it up and wear a pair of thick womens winter boots. You're gonna regret wearing high heels there.

I thought almost the same as you: "I'm not going to buy UGGs or anything that resemble UGGs this season". And guess what I bought an UGG inspired pair (I was kind of forced to because my slouch boots wouldn't keep me warm, even though I wore thick wool knee socks) and I'm so glad that I did because they keep my feet dry and warm in the cold and snowy weather. And not least, help me keep my feet up instead of my butt down (high heel tend to be slippery in the snow and on icy grounds). Although I do feel a little embarrassed wearing them.. But hey, better than freezing your butt off, right?

But maybe we should reconsider the way we feel about UGGs, I found a couple of stylish and warm UGG winter boots on Zappos. At least they're more refined than the typical moonboot look. They look kind of nice:

UGG - Broome (Espresso Suede) - Footwear

UGG - Gissella (Black) - Footwear

UGG - Smithfield (Mosquito) - Footwear

Good luck!

Kind regards,

Buying snow boots is a tough choice, as you pointed out, because what you buy is going to be worn for at least half the year. UGGs are decent if you're in a warmer part of Canada that is dry, but in a wet or cold place, they won't work as well. While Sorrels are available in different styles, you want to make sure you don't buy snowboots that look like they're trying to be fashionable.

Good winter boots are a must!

As someone who has lived in Canada all my life I can tell you this - you need a good pair of winter boots.

And Uggs are not what you want. Uggs get salt stains and don't hold up to slushy snow that is around everywhere (unless you are moving to a glacier).

I would recommend Sorels, you can get some cool styles that have been seen in Vogue and on celebrities when on ski vacations.

If you are looking for something a bit more sleek just make sure you go for something that is lined and WEATHERPROOF.

PS it doesn't snow 8 months of the year, only 5. :)
