Square Face Shape"Styling Tricks that Flatter Your Square Face Shape"
The Square Face Shape gives an impression of strength and girl power. It's a sexy face shape. Think Angelina Jolie! Your facial shape is known to be sculpted looking which adds drama and definition to your appearance.
How Do You Know If Your Face Shape is Square?Your face shape projects sexiness and strength. And because of the angular jawline you might appear masculine. Here are the typical characteristics of a Square face shape:
We can divide the square face shape into two groups which are:
Despite their differences in size and width, they both share the square jawline which is what we are focusing on. Also, True Squares share the same styling strategies and recommendations with Rounds because of their full/wide appearance.
Both of you have the goal of slimming and soften down your lower half. So don’t be surprised if I use for example Cameron Diaz (mix of square and round) interchangeably when talking about Rounds and Square faces! :-)
Be Open to a Secondary (or even a third) Face ShapeYou may not be an exact Square so you probably have a secondary facial shape. It depends on your features. If you pay attention to the proportions and bone structure of your face, you'll know what needs to be visually widened and trimmed down.
For example, if your jawline appears to be square but full then you might want to check out the guidelines for Triangular Face Shape. A long and gaunt looking Square-Rectangle face may also need some of the tips for Oblong Face Shape.
How to Style Your Square Face ShapeDespite your strong and sexy appearance, you may be wishing to downplay it and maybe you're craving for a feminine and look? Your goal is to soften the angles to give the illusion that both the forehead and the jawline appear narrower and rounded.Your best strategy to achieving this is to select hairstyles, jewelry and other accessories that:
Angular motifs and styles should be avoided as it only adds more emphasis on your strong jawline.
If you have a True Square face (wide/round) your goal is to slim down the sides – you can check out my guide for Round Face Shapes for more tips on how to do that.
Your Best HairstylesSome of your best hairstyles:
You should avoid blunt haircuts, such as straight bangs and chin-length bobs as they make your face look harsh and emphasize your jawline. Side-swept bangs complement your face shape a lot better.
An exception to straight haircuts is if your hair is super long, but it has to sit close to the sides of your faec. Also if you decide on getting bangs make sure they graze the eyebrow – hitting just below the eyebrows and end longer at the sides of your face. Back to Top Your Best Sunglasses & EyewearYour jawline consists of a strong angle so your best eyewear styles are the ones that are somewhat soft and rounded, but not completely the opposite from your face shape. Oval and square frames with rounded corners are your best bet. That also includes aviator sunglasses. Also look for eyewear with details on the top to help draw the eye up away from your square jawline – cat eye frames are perfect for this. But color and decoration on top do the trick very well.
I also advise you to look for frames that are no wider than the width of your face. This is especially a must if you have a True Square face shape - a pair of wide sunglasses make your wide jaw and your overall face shape boxy. The Womens Sunglasses-guide has more advice and suggestions.
Your Best JewelryNecklaces and earrings with rounded and curved edges. And also jewelry that are longer than they are wide.
What happens when you wear jewelry that are long in length or have an oblong motif is that it pulls the attention away from your sharp jawline, forming a vertical line from your chin. It basically pulls the eye to your neck and skips the jaw area.
Avoid princess cut stud earrings and opt for rounded ones like oval and round. Round pearl earrings in various designs should be one of your jewelry investments.
