First of all, the best slimming bathing suits have the right details that visually trim down the body; such as
deep necklines,
vertical prints and embellishments, etc. anything that draws the eye up and down, instead of from left to right.
So kick horizontal stripes, round and straight necklines (and anything that encourages the eye to move horizontally on your body)
to the curb!
But of course it depends on which parts of your body you want to minimize. For example: If you have curvy hips and small bust, you might want to choose a swimsuit with a rounded top and slimming bottom. These aren't easy to find but a two-piece suit such as a tankini makes it possible for you to mix and match!

Here's a list of slimming details that you might want to look for when selecting a bathing suit:
V-necks and plunging necklinesA v-neck or a neckline that shows skin slims down your chest and torso because the v-shape draws the eye up and down.
However it's not recommended if you have a Pear body shape because your main focus should be to slim down your hips or add more width to your upper half - and not least draw the eye away from your hips. So if you have narrow shoulder compared to hips and butt, opt for rounder and straighter necklines - because they visually add width to your narrow shoulders and balance out your frame - making you look visually pleasing and your lower bottom slimmer.
Also, if you have a large bust or an Apple body - I recommend you to look for V-necks that end just above the top of your cleavage to avoid it from highlighting your chest.
Prints that match with the scale of your bodyIf you wear prints that look too big for your body frame then they'll overpower your figure and make you look small and fragile. The same rule applies to small prints. If the print looks smaller compared to the size and dimensions of your body, you'll look bigger.
Waist-cinching bands
If your waist or torso is of your trouble spot you can slim it down with swimsuits that pulls in at the thinnest
part of your waist. Like for example a black band around the bust on a halter top bikini or one-piece swimsuit
Shirrings across the midriff
It simply conceals the lumps on bumps on your stomach
Surplice swimsuit
It features a wrap style bodice, a great match for those who want to hide their belly. Works like shirrings.
High-leg cut bottom
As much as boy shorts seem to hide more of your butt they can actually add pounds that area and shorten your legs!
Try sticking to simple bikini or string bottoms to elongate the sides of your hips and your legs. Showing more skin makes you look leaner.
Cover up with swimsuit coverups if needed.
Get the right fit
A slightly big swimsuit or bikini bottom can make you look sloppy. Besides, grandma-poo-looking panties is so not hot. A too-small swimsuit on the other hand squeezes your fat and skin, making you look bulky. So make sure to get the size right. Click here to learn how to take your body measurements.
Tip: When trying on swimsuits, bend and stretch in front of the mirror to make sure the suit stays in place.
And then there are the slimming swimsuits that are designed to tuck in the extras, such as the Miraclesuit swimwear which contours, slims and firms your body figure.
One of the things that sets a Miraclesuit swimsuit apart from the rest is the fabric. It's made of Miratex which has three times as much spandex than the standard bathing suit. Spandex is known to pull in the extra fat (that's why I love my spandex leggings!) without feeling heavy on your body.
If you slip on this baby you'll instantly look 10 pounds lighter! It's called the Miraclesuit because it has three times the holding power of the
average swimsuit. It is one of the 10 top recommended slimming swimsuits for women of all ages!
Lastly, solid dark colored swimwear such as black swimsuits and bikinis. Dark brown, dark purple and dark navy blue are also three other fool-proof
slimming colors. Light colors expand while darker colors minimize.
A Special Note if You're Petite, Plus Size or Curvy
Color contrasts (black on light skin) can make you look shorter and/or curvier. Colors that resemble the color of your skin (nude) or are the same value (depth = light with light, dark with dark) help taking the elongating and slimming effects to the max!
They don't have to be boring. For that little extra, look for gorgeous details like surplice, cut outs, plunging neckline,
sequins, beads, woven straps, etc. Just review the list of slimming swimsuits (details) mentioned earlier in this page :-)
