You'll get more out of the blouses if you buy them in solid neutrals such as black, whites, dark blues and browns. These basic colors go with absolutely everything so that you can easily create different looks and color combinations. Neutrals are also classy and can be worn with your trendy bottoms.

After securing the neutrals, feel free to build on them with bright colors and prints.

The right fit

You can find stylish silk shirt styles on the market - from the oversized to sexy party top. However, if you're aiming for a chic and pulled-together look, the shirt has to sit perfectly on your shoulders and arms. Like I mentioned, you can find them in a wide array of styless. That said, if you love looking classy but want to experiment silk with your casual pieces, experiement with various prints, button details, garment shape, sleeve and collar styles. For example, a loose-fitted silk shirt looks amazing with sleek cargo pants or denim jeans without looking too "buttoned up".

Tip: Swap out the buttons! If you find the right silk blouse with buttons that don't strike your taste, you can easily replace them with nicer ones. If you want the garment to look expensive, try silver, gold or pearl buttons.

How to Take Care of Silk Shirts

One tip of warning when it comes to cleaning your silk garments. Always read the label instructions. Usually some silk pieces must be washed by hand but there are other that needs dry-cleaning.

Here's how you wash silk clothing by hand:

• Use lukewarm water and a neutral soap. Soak the silk blouse for around 5 minutes - and then gently swirl the garment and blot stains. You can soak for a longer time if the blouse is very stained.
• Rinse the garment with some cool water. When squeezing out the excess water, roll it between two towels. Remember never to wring out the blouse.
• Never dry your silk blouse in a dryer, unless the label says otherwise (some allow low tumble dry). Drying in a dryer will damage the cloth and ruin your silk blouse. Also, never hang your silk blouses out in the sun as the heat will damage the natural fibers of the garment.
• Always lay your silk pieces flat to dry (there's an exception. Read further below)

Tip: Want to remove creases from your silk blouse? Hang it on a hanger in a room with humid temperature. Like for example when you take a shower or in front of a hot fire or radiator. The creases will drop.
