Seasonal Color Analysis: I think I'm a Deep Winter, But My Sewing Teacher Thinks I'm a Summer. Which Is It?

My Favorite Picture of Me : D

My Favorite Picture of Me : D

I found your website on the Google search engine looking up what colors would look good on me. The seasononal color analysis system is fantastic!

(Pic: I removed my yellow lampshade, so my light bulb is only giving off white light I think)

But I'm still confused! and I'm trying so hard to figure out what I am.

I am Asian (a very strange Asian, I think), with black-brown hair, black-brown eyes, and peachy skin. I don't like going into sunlight, so I'm a lot paler than the rest of my family.

I think I have pink, warm undertones because under my wrist looks bluish, therefore, warm pink undertones. And my cheeks are rosy. But aren't pink undertones supposed to be like, cold?

Do light-brown eyes blend or contrast with rosy cheeks? My eyes are usually lighter, but it's winter right now.

So because of my black-brown hair without red/gold highlights, black-brown eyes, and pink undertones, I think I'm a deep winter.

I think dramatic colors like hot pink and yellow and Chinese/periwinkle blue are great on me, whereas earthy/muted colors are boring and plain.

My sewing teacher told me I'm a Summer! Also, a friend (who is interested in fashion) told me I look washed out in very dramatic colors, like red and yellow. And deep winters are supposed to look good in true red and mint lemon yellow!
So if I am really a summer, does that mean I've been wearing really unflattering colors all this time? I was excited to be a deep winter since that meant I was allowed to wear a lot of fun and exciting colors that I like!

I really don't like wearing plain, boorish colors. (I love pure white, but not black) I once tried to wear all earth tones because my same friend said I was too fond of bright colors. After just a few days of it, I splurged on all the brightest colors I could possibly find and became a walking rainbow for weeks. Suffocating my love for bright colors only reawakened it with a new intense energy! Is it that I'm a little bit of both seasons and I can't be too muted or too dramatic?

Gold/Silver Test
I think the silver looks very bland. When I try to concentrate on only my skin, it looks pretty much the same to me.

Green Shirt w/ Favorite Pink&White Scarf
Green Shirt w/ Favorite Pink&White Scarf 2
I love wearing colors like these! When I first read that instead of wearing our favorite colors, we should be wearing colors that complement our skin, hair, and eyes, I thought oh no! I looked more carefully -- when I check to see if it washes me out, it washes me out! When I check to see if it lights up my face, it lights up my face!

Muted Pink w/ White Granny Cardigan Thing
I don't really like it. I noticed I look a lot more tired it! The cardigan was itchy and stuff. It was in my mom's bin of unwanted clothes. XD I couldn't find any muted colors in my closet

Yellow Panda Shirt
I like this shirt, but it makes me look tired I think. I think if I want to wear it, I'd have to be wearing it with other colors too, like a white cardigan.

Yellow Panda Shirt w/ Black&Cyan Sweatshirt
I look tired in this one too. I don't like dark colors very much. I like the bursts of color on it though *not shown*.

Can you tell me which season(s) I am?

I definitely think you are a Deep Autumn flowing towards Deep Winter (more of a 50/50, which explains why some bright colors like for example true red might look too much on your complexion). So yes, you are a little bit of both seasons. This is good news because you'll be able to wear your favorite bright colors :-)

Deep Winter

I can see that your hair is more of a black-brown-red, skin is light olive with strong yellow undertones and your eyes dark brown. You also have peachy-pink cheeks which indicate that you're warm (despite that Deep Autumn/Winter don't include peach undertones). Pink usually becomes peach on olive/golden skin tones.

Anyway, these are the common traits of Deep Autumn and at the same time you do have some Deep Winter coloring tendencies (the very black dark hair). I can't see you with other types of colors than from those two palettes because your hair is very dark and you need brighter and deeper colors to compliment it (lighter colors don't hold up your complexion very well).

You're definitely not a Summer because you have warmer and darker colorings compared to a Summers which have pale (almost white), ashy-light hair and lighter eyes. They look good in soft and pinkish colors. The light pink scarf does make you look tired. I really can't see you with many of the Summer colors:

I would think that some of the colors from the Deep Winter Palette would look harsh on your light olive/yellow skin tone, like for example hot pink/fuschia and black. I advise you to focus on deep-warm-and-bright colors instead of the deep-bluish colors. The bright yellow, lime green and navy look really good on you. So does the scarf which has coral-pink in it.

By the way, the gold does brighten up your skin compared to the silver which makes you look more blue. However this test is best done on your face and not your hand/arm :)

Hope this helps! Feel free to comment on this page :-)

Sincerely,

I agree

The pleasure was on my side, Kimmy. I hope my advice has given you some direction in what colors you should base your wardrobe on. The good thing is that you really do suit some cool and some warm colors, which expands the color possibilities :-)

Thanks for reminding me about the visual color thing. When I first was introduced to the color analysis I also had difficulties picturing what different names of hues looked like. This reminds me that my website has to become more visual :-)

Thanks, but I'm not sure about the color analysis revision as I'm still fresh in this (been doing this for over a year, but I'm not certified yet). I read one comment where someone actually has already revised it. We'll see :-)

Thank you so much, Anna!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for me! :D I am so relieved to finally know where I belong on the seasonal coloring analysis. :)

Also, I had much difficulty on other sites--every time a strange color term was mentioned, like pink-beige, I would ponder to myself, "Hm, what is pink-beige?" and try to search up that exact hue on Google Images. If only websites that offered fashion advice had more visual examples rather than textual ones! That also contributed to my hopelessness on figuring out my seasons--it was hard for me to imagine the descriptions in my head!

Well anyway, I read somewhere that you were going to revise the seasonal color analysis. If you actually do it, good luck!
