Note: I highly recommend you to secure at least one black pencil skirt. Tailored and preferably at knee-length. But if you're planning on wearing it to parties then by all means, go shorter ;-) Just make sure it doesn't get any shorter than the tip of your middle fingers when standing up straight with your arms hanging from each side.

And then there's the trendy denim pencil skirt which goes great with most of your spring and summer sweaters, tops and blouses. If you choose the dark blue wash you'll discover that it almost work as a black skirt (gives you all the pros) but looks more casual.

Try other dark, neutral colors such as dark navy blue, mid-grey and dark brown, or dark khaki.

For warmer months and for a fresh spring look

Go for sweet and light colors like white, light pink, cream/beige or light blue. I have one in white with light blue vertical stripes. It's one of my favorite skirts :-)

Add some visual interest (or if you're just feeling frisky)

Opt for prints like for example florals, polkadots, stripes, leopard.

Need something a little eye catching for a party event?

Then why don't you try a pencil skirt with shine, or details such as zippers, tiers or sequins?

For extra sexiness

Wear a high waist pencil skirt! Looks great for work and other semi-formal occasions. And if you choose the denim high waist it'll also look chic as a part of a casual attire.

Secure the basics.

That means you should secure a skirt that is flexible to wear with almost anything -- naturally, a pencil skirt in solid color like black will do.

Be careful with light colors and details.

Because they (along with the tapered hem) will really, really highlight your hips, butt and thighs.
