Kate Winslet's Hourglass-Pear-Apple Body Shape/Getty Images
My body silhouette is hour glass/pear shape but I do carry weight on my tummy a bit like any apple, this sure is a mixture! I still do have a waist line but not sure how to accentuate or hide these types of lumps and bumps.
I have been looking through your site and found it very informative and helpful. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks,
Christine
Hi Christine, I think you should focus on the shape of your torso, which sounds like an hourglass but with an apple tendency. I suppose you have a waist definition but not as narrow as many 'typical' hourglasses. This is normal -- if I had to pick a celebrity of who has a body shape similar to yours (your description) then I would say Kate Winslet. Kate's torso shape is definitely an hourglass -- but her waist is a bit wide and carries a bit weight and she has round hips and thighs.
So if you want to achieve a trimmer and proportional body shape, then you might want to focus on trimming your waist a little and slim down your bottom half. You simply follow my guidelines for hourglass, pear and apple.
Here are my suggestions for what to wear to disguise the areas you're dissatisfied with:

What type of outfit fits a pear shape?
Any outfit that balances out your body shape or makes you feel good about yourself :-)
If you love your curves I don't see why you shouldn't flaunt it (like Beyoncé), however if you're self-conscious about your curvy bottom or don't like the attention it's getting you, I suggest following the basic guidelines to visually shape your pear shape figure into a proportional silhouette -- in this way, you'll avoid having a heavy point of your body 'stick out' and take the whole centerstage of your appearance.
Short tops and jackets, bootcut/flare/wide leg jeans, print embellished and light colored tops, and some heels are some of your wardrobe essentials.
To get you started here are some basic flattering outfits for your body shape:

... because from the front I look hourglass but from the side I look pear shaped? My measurements are 36 - 27.5 - 39.5
Your body measurements look like a pear shape because your hip width is wider than your bust. An Hourglass body shape has a waist 8" to 12" smaller than hip and bust measurement. Your body measurements are a mix of Pear and hourglass, but with a heavier bottom and slightly wider waist.
Hope this helps!

How do I choose the right body suit when my bust is small and I am medium on in the middle and my hips are bordering on large?
If they say go with your normal size I am stuck.
Do I have to buy two pieces instead?
I want a seamless all-over look for under an evening gown that criss crosses at the back.
Andrea, you have a curvacious pear body shape which means that buying dresses, jumpers or anything that is a full-piece often leaves you confused because you don't know which part of your body (upper or bottom half) you should base the sizing on.
I can completely understand why you're feeling stuck!
Yes, you can go for two shapewear pieces if you want but I also would like to suggest you to purchase a full body shaper that allows you to choose your own bra. This means you should buy a one-piece bodysuit based on your bottom half which is a Large.
Here are some one-piece shapewear suggestions for your pear body shape:
