Latest Fashion Trends: How to Prune Through The Noise and Find What Will Look Fab On You

...without wasting your time, money, energy and your dignity

Cute and stylish woman
Now let's talk about the latest fashion trends that create the (sometimes crazy) excitement in a season.

We all know that the current fashion trends keep your style and wardrobe fresh; injecting glamour, wit and spunk, the extra *ooomph* -- making you feel more alive! But c'mon let's face it, when the trends are at their exaggerated worst, head-to-toe looks, -- well, you'll end up looking completely ridiculous.

You might not even notice it yourself at first but when you do realize what all of those stares and comments were all about, you'll definitely understand that you've wasted hundreds of bucks on an outfit that looks stupid and will turn into yesterday's news in just a couple of months.

That's why I've created this page -- to improve your spending habits, look chic yet trendy without looking like freaky fashion victim! No pun intended, it's just how I describe women I see on the streets looking like they're wearing an over-wrought stage costume.

Just Because a Trend Looks Hot,
Doesn't Mean You'll Look Good in it

So you pick trendy clothes that "looks good" and that are "so in right now".

"Looks good"...? On, who? The airbrushed model you saw in a fashion magazine or yourself?

"It's the hottest thing right now"...? Again, for exactly who?

A pair of super-wide leg jeans will look much better on a tall and slightly curvy girl without swallowing up her legs and body. Now compare the same jeans style on a lanky, petite frame (imagine Mary Kate Olsen cirka 2005-06). A woman with golden complexion will glow in gold compared to silver that enhances the luminousity of a pale person with bluish undertone.

You know the drill.

Style and Fashion Are NOT the Same Thing

Noticed how I put a bold and underline on the "NOT"?

Now fashion is about the clothes. But style, oh my gosh, really. Good style is so much more than that! Having a great sense of style is about reuniting fashion with your height, shape, skin, eye and hair color, personality and age.

Think of it an art form. You prune through all the colors, shapes, textures, etc., to find the best details to enhance and complement the beauty of a painting, a jewelry, clothing, an outfit, a room.. The same thing apply to your appearance. You pick the right colors to bring out the natural, healthy glow in your skin tone, hair and eyes. You choose the best cut and prints to balance out your body frame -- bringing out the best in your body and disguising the parts that dampen your self-esteem. You compose an outfit that you feel reflects the person you are. I mean, who wants to wear something that is an expression of someone else's taste and style? Or worse, wear something that doesn't harmonize with the personality in you? It's O-K to copy a fashionable woman's style, but not from head-to-toe!

Do Not Mimick; Feel It, Own It

You can use your inspiration and turn it into something stylish and totally you. Who says we can't tweak?

It's your art; prune through the options -- pick the best details and clothes that will enhance your personal style and throw away those that will only emphasize what you dislike and that clashes with your personality.

Fashion Tip Note What To Do If You Live in a Warmer Climate?

It's usually the northern hemisphere -- US, Europe -- who take the lead in the latest fashion trends. So if you live in the southern hemisphere, like Australia or South-East Asia, put your attention on your local fashion stores or websites. They'll be doing all the catwalk interpreting -- adjusting the clothes to your climate.

Designers such as Alana Hill, Carla Zampatti, George Gross and Lisa Ho take the latest runway trends and interpret them to be relevant for the southern hemisphere season.

So Before Picking New Details from the Latest Fashion Trends,
Ask Yourself These Questions...

  • Will the silhouette on the clothing flatter your shape and size?
  • Will the fabric and fit drape and smooth over your figure? -- eg. some fabrics like high sheen satin can add unflattering bulks
  • Will the color(-s) complement your skintone?
  • Will the design(-s) bring out the parts you like about yourself? -- Great legs? Prety face? Super-nice hair? Feminine waist? etc., etc.
  • Will the clothing style reflect your personality? -- Classy? Eclectic? Sporty? Laid-back? Fun? Sophisticated?
