Is Matching Shoes and Handbag Color Outdated?

I always thought shoes should match your handbag. Is this outdated?
Matching the color of your shoes with your handbag used to be a hard and fast rule, kind of like matching your lipstick with your nail polish. However, things have changed and it has become perfectly acceptable to wear shoes and a handbag that compliment each other (by either being in the same color family - ex. beige and brown, or complimenting each other on the color wheel - turquoise and pinks).
I wouldn't go far by saying that matching your shoe color with your handbag is outdated or a fashion faux pas, but it might be a classic and predictable way to match your clothes. BUT it is by no means unstylish. I believe it is one of those fool-proof, timeless fashion choices like wearing a v-neck sweater with black dress pants.
Matching shoes and handbag creates a polished and put together look, especially if shoes and handbag color match exactly. Try stretching your comfort limit by going for shoes and handbag in different nuances to create a great style impact.
However mismatching your shoes and handbag creates a unique and fun fashion statement -- it also adds more personality to an outfit. It's one of the best styling tricks to highlight a pair of killer shoes or a trendy, new handbag.
Hope this helps.
