The hamsa is known as an amulet protection in many religions but it has turned into a fashion trend, tickling bohonistas interest because of the exotic and inspirational look.
Because of its spiritual message I wouldn't say that wearing a Hamsa is a trend but more of an individual approach to self-expression which isn't limited by the current fashion trends. Most women find this type of jewelry encouraging and personal (and often spiritual) - and an interesting accent to their outfit.
Select a color that flatters your complexion

Cool metals and colors such as silver, white gold and clear white look best on women with bluish-pinkish undertone. However, warm colors and metals such as red, brown and gold flatter golden/peachy complexions.

Choose quality jewelry if you want it to last

Examples of quality metals are: gold-filled, gold karat 12 and up and sterling silver. A jewelry piece with a thick or purer layer of gold or silver is your best bet and scores highly on the durability-scale.
The downside to buying the cheapest alternative is that it has a very thin coating of gold or silver metal which will start to lose
its color after just a couple of months (a lot faster if you sweat because the salt makes the metal tarnish a lot easier).
How to wear Hamsa jewelryI'm not into wearing religion-inspired amulets as earrings and I would rather go for a Hamsa necklace and Hamsa bracelet because they're great for layering with other jewelry pieces - creating that effortless chic look.
