Fashion vests are perfect for layering your outfits and adding a different twist to your look. I personally just love how well they layer with tops, tees, dresses and sweaters without making your arms feel heavy.

You can find womens vests in a variety of styles - from cozy knit grandpa to sleek dress vests, from various prints to textures. Denim, faux fur and lace crochet vests are some of the trendiest vest styles - and some of your best investments because they keep reappearing in the fashion cycle!

Vests can be layered with almost anything - from other sweater styles to dresses. However, when it comes to your winter pieces, it's important to keep atleast one of them "fat-free" - meaning, avoid wearing a chunky knit or denim vest with a chunky knit sweater :-)

Basically, if you decide to wear knit vest, make sure the top or sweater underneath is thinner in fabric and texture. One of my favorite ways to wear it - is with a dress shirt or blouse. During winter, I usually pair a chunky vest with a lightweight wool sweater dress.

If your layered vest makes you appear chunky around the middle, you might want to nip the waist with a skinny belt or string.

Rotate the closet wheel

It depends on your personal style - but I often see girls sport the same vest combo (vest with jeans or vest with a floral dress). So I just want to encourage you to think outside the box as explained Outfit Ideas-section.

For example - instead of the standard jeans, tee and vest-outfit - pair fashion vests with shorts, skirts (from sleek pencils to flirty ruffles, your choice!), or blouses and dress shirts.

If you still want to stick to the vest and tee-look, make sure to add some interest with accessories! Jewelry and a belt can do wonders to most plain outfits.

Choose the right style

One of the most important aspects of looking good is to make sure that you got the body proportions right - or you could say, outfit proportions.

Here are a couple of pointers to consider when wearing a vest:

No more than one "fattening" garment. Basically, if you're wearing loose and oversized vests, your bottom needs to be fitted. If the body shape guidelines don't recommend that (eg. You have prominent curves) then focus on fitted bottoms but in a shape and cut that complements the shape of your body
Speaking of body shape, if you're self-conscious about your body figure - then select fashion vests that complement it. For example if you have wide or prominent upper body (shoulders and bust) look for long vests that create curves around the hip - or wear a pair of flare leg jeans!
