Fall Winter fashion trends 2009-2010

I've done things differently compared to my last trend report on spring/summer 2009, by dividing this guide into 4 separate pages for each fall/winter fashion key looks, which are:

I've picked some of the wearable details which I think would appeal to your taste.

I advise you to check out F/W Fashion Essentials for a quick list on the essentials you need to achieve a complete and solid Autumn/Fall and Winter wardrobe.

Tip: Fashion today has become more of an individual thing. Try mixing up different pieces from each key look to achieve an original chic style!

Now let me give you an overview of the key elements of this season's current trends!

Color Fashion Trends

Colors seen on the Catwalk reflect the tough Economic times so you'll see lots of dark, deep and nature-inspired colors.

Let's check them out:

  • Black
  • Grey: from earthy-grey tints to light grey tones sparkly metallic
  • Cream
  • Brown: tan, beige
  • Red: Crimson red to burgundy
  • Orange: Burnt Sienna, deep orange
  • Blue: electric blue, mint blue, dark navy blue, teal blue

Fall winter 2009 2010 color trends

I don't really like stating that you should wear this and this color to stay trendy. Some colors just don't look good on some skin complexions and others might not find specific colors appealing. If you've reviewed my F/W fashion essentials you probably know that you can never go wrong with black, brown, gray, red, purple and mustard yellow for fall/winter.

How to Wear the Fashion Color Trends

Wear them as your key piece clothing; as a black turtleneck sweater, grey chunky cardigan, orange floral blouse or a dress, and balance it with a pair of classic dark blue or black jeans. Luckily, the color trend for fall/winter fashion 2009 are subtle enough to wear to work.

If you want to get the most out of your fall/winter fashion 2009-10 wardrobe budget, you might want to focus on buying accessories in those colors, such as a knit scarf in burnt sienna (orange), beaded jewelry in teal or a suede bag in tan brown.

If you want a more exotic look, accompany the color tones with gold or silver jewelry. The metallic shine remarkably accentuates the beauty in the colors.

Accessory and Details for Fall/Winter Fashion 2009

Expect to see lots of dramatic and feminine prints, accessories and other details this season!

These details include animal prints, ruffles, lace, plaid, brocade, ethnic patterns, florals, zippers, chain, studs, chunky statement necklaces, Art Deco style jewelry, drapes, striped leggings and tights, bold colored opaque tights, sequins, gray knits, ruchings.

How to wear it:

You should wear them in small doses and balance them out with a couple of garments from the wardrobe essentials-list. When it comes to textures and prints (animal print, lace, plaid) wear it in one place or preferably in one garment. Most of the details act as key pieces in an outfit. Like for example, the studs and sequins. If you're wearing a studded leather jacket, sequin vest or plaid shirt, work around it by adding colors and clothes that complement the look. Like a pair of distressed denim jeans complement a plaid shirt without being too "out there".

Whatever you choose to wear, rememeber to keep it the trends and essentials at a 50/50 level. Avoid bringing too much of the good stuff because that will completely make your outfit look out of place. Click here to learn more about how to wear the current fashion trends.

Trendy Cuts and Shapes

One shoulder, asymmetrical tops and sweaters, bustier top, straight and skinny pants and drapey cardigans.

How to wear it:

The cuts for this season are slightly messy so it's time to really pull out the wardrobe staples to balance out the look. Like for example, a drapey cardigan looks extremely good with a basic tee and jeans. We don't want to have too much going on in your outfit. The drapes already put volume to your silhouette. If you want to look super-chic add a couple of other trendy accessories such as a jeweled wide belt around the cardigan to hold the drapes in place, an animal figure cocktail ring or studded boots ;-).

How to Wear Fall Winter Fashion 2009 & 2010 Trends

I'm going to introduce you to the 4 key look fahsion trends this season, which are Country Folk, Boho De Luxe, Modern Simplicity and Iron Maiden. The recession has influenced a large majority of the designers so to make it more affordable for the customers, they have made the outfits simpler and used cheaper materials.

Tip: A lot of the details are re-runs from last season so you can still continue to wear the plaid shirt which was also on the spotlight earlier this year. But if you want an updated plaid shirt, you can still buy the newly designed ones in some of the fall/winter color trends and details such as ruffles.

Now let's begin!

Boho De Luxe

Country Folk

Iron Maiden

Modern Simplicity
