How to Select a Denim Pencil Skirt

Invest in versatility

The key to having endless variety in your closet is to buy a solid dark wash denim style with minimal pockets and details to secure the versatility in your closet. Dark blue or black denim wash is chic and easier to match than light wash. Besides, denim skirts in complicated washes and details make your hips look huge and thighs short and thick - which is a distraction at work.

An exception is if you want curves, of course! So if you have a slim hips or just wish to accentuate your curves, then you should buy to a pencil skirt with texture and interest on the sides of your hips and thighs. Examples are creases, faded wash and visible seam stitches - they're great for creating the illusion of a curvy hourglass body shape.

If you have full hips and/or thighs

Opt for denim skirts with regular or high waist (not low) to control the flab and draw the eye upwards and preferably without too many pockets to help slim down your bottom half. No pockets are ideal for this type of trouble-spot.

Focus on solid denim washes to avoid highlighting any bumps. The right shape is also crucial - we both know that a pencil skirt has a tapered hem but for your figure it should taper just a bit. Nothing too pegged to avoid looking like a light bulb!

If you have a round tummy
