Ways to Create Different Cardigan Outfits
There are many ways to look cute in a cardigan. Let's take a plain black cardigan as an example.
Like this one from Gap:
Ok, it's not exactly the most exciting design and color, but what's really great about that is that you can wear it with absolutely everything! It'll go great with
all colors, color combinations and styles. And that saves you a heck of a lot of
frustration when you need a really quick cover-up.
Anyway, take a look at these 5 ways to transform a plain and boooring cardigan into a chic look:
1. Wrap a Belt Around Your Waist or Hips
There are two ways to wear a belt with
a cardigan: Unbuttoned or button-up style. That means leaving the cardigan hang loose from the sides of your stomach and
then debulking it with a belt. The button-up style creates a fitted, sleek and matronly look.
A skinny, two- or three layered or wide fashion belt will definitely
add instant chicness. For a different twist, wrap a long scarf or sash around your waist.
2. Wear it Unbuttoned, Letting it Flow from Each Side
Reveal your funky t-shirt, skin-fitted top or cute blouse. How about giving attention to your bold necklace by wearing
a cardigan open?
3. Top it Off with a Brooch.
It's perfect if you have a romantic-vintagey-girly style. You can place the brooch the classic way: on the right or left
side of your chest. Or, if you're wearing a wrap cardigan that doesn't have any buttons you can use a brooch to "close" it.
4. With a Skirt
Create a chic and cute 50's outfit with a classic hip-length or cropped cardigan and a skirt of your choice. Examples of skirts
are ruffled, tiered, sexy pencil, etc.
5. Layer It with a Turtleneck Sweater.
Do it the boho way by wearing a plain
cardigan with a colorful turtleneck sweater.
And then top it off with a layered, chain or beaded necklace.
Tip:
You don't have to stick to plain cardigans. Depending on your taste and style you can also choose one that has details you love.
Examples of embellishments are unique buttons or pockets on the sides for your keys.
Another cardigan style tip involves using your fingers...
Are You a Crafty Person?
Fantastic! Then you can personalize a cardigan to make it unique. If you're not crafty, then you can easily learn some basic sewing skills.
If you're a total newbie then I recommend starting slow by learning how to sew on buttons.
You can swap out the plain black plastic buttons with interesting ones. Examples are pearls, bone, leather, stone or cord buttons.
Or how about putting some edge with cool patches?
You can also experiment with ruffles, lace and ribbons as well!
