Can I Wear a Hippie Headband with a Ponytail?

I've seen a lot of women wearing hippie headbands with their hair in ponytails.

I tried it one day and one of my friends told me that it doesn't look good. Is is really a fashion no no or is it okay to wear your hair in a ponytail then put a hippie headband?


If you like wearing a hippie headband with ponytail and it defines your personal style then why not go for it?

I personally think it's a nice look (as in cool and youthful), but of course it depends on the face of the person who is wearing it and how you wear it.

What happens is that the headband shortens your face which can make your face look rounder/wider/chubby. So basically, if your face is full or roundish, it will look better when you place the band higher up on your forehead to avoid shortening your face shape.

Here are some ideas on how to wear the ponytail-hippie headband-combo:

Sideswept Bangs

You start by pulling your hair up in a mid-high ponytail and then put on the headband. And then pull out some of the hair in front of your forehead and sweep it to the side.

You can also pull some of the hair form the sideburns to create a relaxed and slightly messy look.

Messy Geisha (see top picture)

Pull up your hair up and create a messy Geisha ball and place the headband around your head. Let some of the hair stick out from the ball.

To-the-Side Ponytail

Simply sweep all of your hair (along with some height on top) to the side, and then create a mid-high ponytail. Make sure the other side stays put but don't make it too tight!

Pull the headband down and below the tail. You can use some gel to keep the top and side of the hair in place.

To-the-Side Ponytail, Side-Swept Version

This is one of my favorite ways to wear a hippie headband. You basically just do a side part, create a low side ponytail and put on the headband (should sit above the tail).

Those are 4 ways I came up with to look boho-chic with a hippie headband and a ponytail!
