I carry most of my weight in my abdomen - love handles push my pants down, and skirts always want to ride up over them - so I believe full high-waist skirts could be a comfortable solution other than wearing dresses every day.

What do you think?

High waisted skirts and pants are super-stylish (I just bought three pair of high waist pants and two skirts for my Spring/Summer 2010 wardrobe!) and yes, full high waist skirts are more comfortable and stay put around your torso without creating embarrassing bulges, as well as helping hide love handles and high hips. They hug your natural waist, accentuating the thinnest part of your torso and skim past your problem area!

However, they can be a little tricky on a short waist because worn incorrectly they can visually shorten it and make you look wider on top, but on a brighter note, it can make your lower part (lower hip, thighs and legs) appear longer and leaner!

There are a few styling tricks to make a high waisted skirt (and other bottoms) work for you so it doesn't completely swallow up your torso...

Match the bottom with the color of your top
Heavy contrasting colors visually 'chop up' the area you place them on. Despite that it has the beautiful ability to accentuate/fake a thin waist, the point (exactly where you're the thinnest) where it contrasts can break it up and visually shorten it. matching for example a black high waist skirt with another black top (or anything that is dark colored, ex. deep purple, dark brown) is much more flattering than wearing a black bottom and white top because it elongates your waist.

You can also work around the rule by wearing a vest or cardigan that matches with the color of the bottom to skim over the point where your waist has been shortened. So despite your short waist you can still wear a high waisted bottom like that girl in that picture you provided :-)

You're definitely right about high waist complimenting love handles much better than low-rise. In fact, anything mid-rise to high waist are the best alternatives for women who carry more weight around the tummy (and for those who have high hips).
