If you're an Inverted Triangle or Apple shape

Be careful with black skinny jeans as they can make you look wider on top because they make your legs and hips look slimmer, highlighting your upper half.

Here are couple of tricks to make it work for your body figure:

• Slim your upper half. That means you should opt for something solid and dark colored on top to balance out with your narrower hips and legs.
• Wear a pair of bright or detail-rich shoes. These will automatically draw the eye downwards and away from your upper half and add more volume on the narrowest area of your body.
• Opt for details like acid wash, creases, studs and details along the front pockets, fade mark on the thighs, etc. to add more volume to your legs.

If you're a petite or a plus-size figure and want to look taller/slimmer

Avoid wearing high contrasting garments and shoes with the skinnys. Like for example if you choose to wear a white tee with black jeans you'll cut your figure in halves at the hemline, making you look shorter/bigger.

If you absolutely want to wear a white top with the black jeans make sure you top it off with something dark colored like black vest or dark brown cardigan to streamline your figure. Or add a pair of heels.

If you don't like the feeling of the tapered legs

Opt for straight leg jeans instead! They look exactly like skinnys but they're slightly wider around the calves and might be more comfortable around the ankles on you.

If you have curves then this is the best leg for balancing them out.

What to Wear with Black Skinny Jeans

Here are a couple of chic ideas to wear a pair of black skinny jeans:

Checkered shirt:

A laid-back and up-to-date look. In my opinion, a checkered shirt looks better with black skinny than blue jeans because it tones down the whole country-barnyard vibe ;-) Wear the shirt loosely with a simple tee underneath it.

Tee:

A standard garment to wear with black skinny jeans. I particularly like to add a cool print tee or a slightly oversized American Apparel t-shirt with a deep V-neck.

A simple tunic tee also looks great with the skinnys but to freshen up the look make sure to add a couple of nice accessories in the mix, like for example a pashmina scarf, long pendant necklace or/and a large cocktail ring. In this case, something girly or classy like pearls or a multiple layered necklace - or a bold statement necklace!

Boots:

Pair them with black or dark brown ankle or knee/thigh high boots. A little bit of heel is a must if you want to look gorgeous on the dance floor or for a hot guy.

However, flat boots are more casual-looking - slouch boots and simple knee high riding boots are chic options.

Peep hole shoes:

They add a feminine and discreet sexy flair to very black and dark jeans - infusing a playful interest to the punk'ish pants.
